The unsung hero of any production is the producer, and John knows how to get the right people together to do the job the right way. Any large scope project needs a person who understands everything from top to bottom--the mood, the audience, the client, the budget. And it's the producer who brings all those elements together to make a solid project come to fruition. John is able to use his gift of gab for good purposes in this context: people like him, dammit, and that means they'll work with him and work hard for him.
Having a vision for the final cut is critical. When everything comes with a camera built in, and content is everywhere, having the right person in charge is the only way to cut through the noise. As a director, John prides himself on working with actors as well as non-actors to create a cohesive piece that speaks to its audience.
The frame was John's first love in film school. Knowing that a photo works or doesn't is something that comes with practice--diligent practice. And having practiced his first craft for years, creating that dynamic frame that works for the story as well as the edit is John's forté. The visual medium speaks to today's audience, and that audience needs something compelling. John does compelling.
